At Heimsath Architects, our Shared Design philosophy reflects a commitment to inclusive, community-driven projects that engage the full breadth of community experience. We believe in a trust-based, intentional process that taps into the unique perspectives and creativity of each participant.
As architects, we are both stewards and facilitators, creating a space where diverse ideas coalesce into unforeseen yet powerful solutions. By drawing on collective strengths, this process captures the essence of the community, which in turn leads to spaces that are not only functional but inspiring and enduring.
Workshops and charrettes form critical components of our design strategy, as they empower stakeholders—from congregation leaders to community members—to have ownership in the design process, blending new insights with existing initiatives and overcoming barriers collaboratively.
Our Shared Design approach extends seamlessly into the project development phases, where engagement and transparency are prioritized. Throughout the Schematic and Design Development phases, we invite contributions from consultants, building committee members, and other key community figures to ensure multiple voices are heard and considered. A thorough review of budget and fundraising strategies helps inform our actions, especially with respect to value engineering and budget priorities.
We advocate for early collaboration with general contractors and participate in strategic code analysis and site entitlements while addressing challenges head-on. Communication remains central as we utilize advanced 3D modeling, video, and interactive tools to keep participants informed and involved at every step.
In the construction phases, our team maintains a proactive presence, coordinating with building committees or owner groups and general contractors to sustain project momentum. With our assistance, projects move through bidding, permitting, and ground-breaking. We are active in all phases of construction, through substantial completion and identification of punch list items. Even after project completion, we stay engage with handover to the community while remaining available to assist with any warranty issues.
With over 65 years in business, our commitment to sustainability and longevity has contributed to hundreds of new and preserved landmark buildings that are cherished by their communities.
